Redondo Beach Fire Department – Today, and the Future

Fire Chief Robert Metzger has been the Fire Chief for the City of Redondo Beach since February 2013. He came to Redondo Beach from the State of Florida, where he served as Fire Chief for five years for a Fire District in the Greater Naples area. Chief Metzger originally hails from Toledo, OH where he served on the Toledo Department of Fire and Rescue, rising to the rank of Deputy Fire Chief for this 525-person department. He has over 40 years of experience in the Fire Service.

Chief Metzger holds a Bachelor of Science in Fire Safety and Engineering from the University of Cincinnati, and a Master of Public Administration from the Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers, FL. He is a Graduate of the Executive Fire Officer Program at the U.S. Fire Administration’s National Fire Academy in Maryland, and has attended numerous specialized education and training programs throughout the United States. Earlier in August, Chief Metzger attended a certification course in Texas to become a qualified Health and Safety Officer, to broaden both his own and the Department’s knowledge base in this area.

Chief Metzger calls Redondo Beach “Home”, living with his wife Beth on the Avenues in South Redondo Beach. They have four sons, six grandsons, two granddaughters, and one more boy making his first appearance in late October. Besides visiting the grandbabies, Bob and Beth enjoy the amenities of this wonderful beach community, including exercise, golf, and public service through the newly formed Kiwanis Club of Redondo Beach.
